Hospital facilities in and around Cardiff treated many casualties during both World Wars. They would arrive in the docks aboard a hospital ship.

Seen here is HMHS Atlantis an ocean liner converted into a hospital ship in 1939. HMHS Atlantis was staffed by over 130 doctors and nurses, who could administer medical care to over 600 patients.
