His Majesty's Hospital Ship (HMHS) Atlantis was a British hospital ship built as Royal Mail Steam Packet Company ocean liner RMS Andes. It was converted into a hospital ship in 1939 at the beginning of World War II. HMHS Atlantis was staffed by over 130 doctors and nurses, who could administer medical care to over 600 patients. There is a model in the Maritime Museum in Liverpool.

SS City of Cardiff was a cargo steamer owned by Sir William Rearden Smith & Sons Ltd. . On the 21st March 1912 she was wrecked in Mill Bay near Land's End when blown onto rocks in a gale whilst on passage from Le Havre for Cardiff in ballast.
