Subject
Born in 1925 in the Bay, lived in Loudoun Square in the war. Joined forces 1942-46. Before joining used to go dancing a lot even in wartime. Down in the Bay no shortages because of the ships, could get anything under the counter, black market, mentions several shops. Tells about air raids, black out curtains, sandbag and bucket of water near the door, and gas masks. Bomb fell behind their house and had to be evacuated for 5 nights, singing to keep spirits up. Plane machine gunned children playing in the park. ARP made up of all parts of the community, area used to be very close - nobody had much and all fathers went to sea. Enjoyed the forces, went into the forces because Current's ammonition factory didn't hire her because of skin colour. Sister GI bride, about Americans visiting in secret. Punishment in forces because of wearing silk stockings.
