Summary
Side one begins with interview with Mavis Jackson [MJ] who is asked about levels of support for the BHAC and the implications of the Cardiff Bay development scheme starting in 1970, mentioning some of its negative impacts such as moving away of industry. MJ talks about the lack of communication within the BHAC. At [00:10:17] the recording changes to interview with Neil Sinclair [NS] who is asked about how he got involved in the BHAC, talking about being born there and his time in America, publishing The Tiger Bay Story in 1993 and his work with the Cardiff Bay development Corporation. NS speaks in depth about his role in editing the Voice of the Tiger magazine and how it is distributed [00:19:00]. NS talks about the structure of the BHAC, levels of staff training, and how funding is required. Makes point of how the community has always been hesitant of external organisations claiming to represent them due to studies that return no benefit to the area.
Side two continues the conversation. Neil Sinclair [NS] talks about the issues surrounding volunteers including command structures compared to paid staff. The interviewer asks whether BHAC has respect in the community and if taking money from the Cardiff Bay Development Corporation has led to the BHAC compromising its work [00:16:00]. Interview ends with NS being asked about the weakness of the BHAC and speaks about the problems with the disenfranchisement of the community and the perception of empowering outsiders.
