Tape 1 [00:41:49]: Margaret Fjeld [MF] moved to Cardiff from London in 1943 to run the Norwegian café on Bute Street. The café was to serve Norwegian community and sailors arriving in the area. [00:03:09] Recalls selling beer on a Sunday and the café would be chaos. [00:05:14] Remembers most cooks and waitresses leaving Tiger Bay after the war finished – the ones who stayed had usually got married. [00:05:46] Mentions Roald Dahl’s father visiting the café and taking pictures. [00:08:56] Comments on opening hours of the café and the prices of different food items.
