Summary
Gerd Evans describes her experiences as a Norwegian woman who moved to Cardiff in 1945. She met her husband in Oslo while he was there during the war, and after knowing each other for four months, they were married and Evans moved back to Cardiff to live with his family. Beginning at 08:45, she tells stories about Cardiff Docks, the Evans family, and her husband’s new job as a police officer. Evans is asked about Pastor Rasmussen and Pastor Danielson at the Norwegian Church, and she tells about them, their families, and the services and events that were held in the church. Evans continues with interesting stories about Mr. Fiel’s Norwegian restaurant in Cardiff, the details of church services at the Norwegian Church, and 17 May (syttende mai, Norwegian Constitution Day) celebrations.
On side two of the tape, Evans describes her life in Norway before moving to Wales. She talks about going to university in Germany before the war, her fiancée who died in Auschwitz in 1942, and the details of daily life in Norway during German occupation. The interview ends with Evans describing her first impressions of Cardiff.
