C - Coal

The photo shows coal trucks in marshaling sidings adjoining Roath Dock in 1927.

The prosperity of Cardiff is built originally on the export of coal from its docks. Export started in earnest around 1840 and reached a peak of 10.7m tons in 1913.
When the world changed to oil as it main fuel, coal exports reduced dramatically but didn't end completely until 1964.
